A Day in the Life of a Blogger

I love to blog.  Absolutely love it.  Love it so much in fact, that I recently began pursuing this passion of mine, full-time.  Yep, look at me.  A full-time blogger.  Many people have this misconception about bloggers….that we sit around in our pajamas all day long just writing the words that fill our brains.  (okay, the PJ part isn’t quite such a stretch for me….)  To be honest, blogging is one the hardest things I have ever done.  I’m 100% self-taught and still learning every day.  Some days,  I think I’m a rock-star.  Others?  I’d rather just crawl under that rock.

Truth be told, blogger takes a TON of time if you really want to make a go of it.  The research, the writing, the reviewing, the editing, the graphics, the SEO, the pinning, the promoting, the networking…you name it.  It seems like every day something changes in the blogging world and everything you thought you knew has to be adjusted.

So, since I’m new to this wonderful world of blogging, I thought I’d give ya a glimpse of what my day as a blogger looks like.

The alarm clock goes off, and it’s go time.   Wake up and start the day.  Turn on the computer and stare at the screen, waiting for my eyes to adjust.  I love getting up before anyone in my home to start the day.  It gives me a moment to think, reflect and plan accordingly.

Waking up and getting ready to start blogging in the morning takes me some time.  Once I’m ready, I’m ready to rock and roll.  I start going through my to-do list for the day and this can take a varying amount of time.  Sometimes, an hour, sometimes more.  I answer emails, do research, create content and images, promote…before I know it, several hours have passed and I’ve yet to even had my first cup of coffee.  FAIL.

So, once my brain puts the halt on any thoughts until I give it some caffeine, I listen to what my body wants,  grab a cup and step away from the computer for a bit.  I sit and brainstorm with my hubby on blog and growth ideas for the day and week, and let the coffee start pulsing through my veins giving me that energy that I’m seeking.

Then…?  Yep, you guessed it.  Back to work for a while. Following up on questions, comments, doing more research, reaching out for collaborations, correcting grammar mistakes that my husband pointed out to me after reading my post (eek!), and on and on.  It may sound cyclical, but it truly varies each and every day.

My afternoons consist of networking, updating and preparing upcoming posts.  I schedule meetings during the afternoons to talk with potential clients about collaboration ideas, which is one of the coolest parts of blogging!  I’ve talked and Skyped and Zoomed with people all over the world.  I just love it.  I’m sipping my coffee here while they are enjoying their afternoon tea.  Being able to work remotely is amazing.

The beautiful thing about blogging and writing full-time?  My day is mine to do what I want.  Do I need to write a post for the day?  Well, guess what..I’m a night owl and 3 AM is the perfect time for me to brainstorm an awesome post.  Do I want to catch up on some zzz’s and start my day a little later?  Not a problem, my blogging duties will be there waiting for me.  Do I want to have an afternoon walk?  I can lace up those shoelaces at any point in time.

My life as a blogger has started off so wonderful.  Never did I imagine myself being able to pursue a true passion of mine, but I am.  and I’m not looking back.  2018 is going to be the year of dreams for me and my family.

A day in my life is anything but normal, but it is everything exciting to me.  I wake up every day excited to write, collaborate and share my words with the world.   <3

I love reading your ‘day in a life’. As a fellow blogger, I’m always interested in how others are doing it! I too wake up super early before anyone else to get started on my blogging day 🙂

I can’t wait until I develop some sort of routine when it comes to blogging. I always feel so scatter brained doing one task for a moment and then switching to another. Lol. What helped you develop a routine? Maybe I should get myself a planner so I can put my tasks and ideas in writing.

Thanks for this look inside your day. I usually work on my blogging in the evening and the very early mornings (because I still have a day job at a daycare). Really, any spare minute I spend either working on or thinking about my blog. It’s certainly turned in to my passion. I’m hoping to make it into a steady income earner this year!

I love hearing about other bloggers days! I’m new to blogging myself and i’m still trying to get the hang of it and organize my life! Thanks so much for sharing. I feel less crazy now!

Such a fun read! I’m totally with you on the early morning blogging- it’s when I get most of my work done, before my “real” (pays the bills) job starts! It’s super busy but I love it!
