I literally could eat them every single day, all day long. (I’m an adult, I have that right) But, for the sake of my children and their sweet tooths, I try to keep these limited to random times during the year and only for breakfast.
While these colors look Mardis Gras, you can honestly change them up to any colors that you want. Perfect for baby showers, birthdays, or just as a fun surprise, this donut recipe without yeast is crazy, crazy simple to do. Plus, they’re baked so you don’t have to worry about that heavy grease taste or look, either!

It’s actually really simple. Since the base of this recipe is used with a boxed cake mix, there aren’t many steps or ingredients that you have to worry about.

This homemade donuts recipe is delicious and simple to do!
Ingredients
- 1 box of white cake mix, any brand
- 1 egg
- 1/4 C. vegetable oil
- 1 C. water
- *Yellow frosting
- *Purple frosting
- *Green frosting
- (2) 6 ct donut pans
- Kitchen scissors
- Large freeze bag
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Spray the donut pan with non-stick cooking spray.
Combine the cake mix, egg, oil and water mixing well.
Scoop the donut batter into a large freezer bag. Seal and snip the corner with a pair of scissors. Fill each donut well about 2/3 full.
Bake for 12-14 minutes.
Remove the oven and let cool.
Line a large baking sheet with wax or parchment paper.
Use a butter knife to gently lift the donuts from the pan and place on prepared the baking sheet.
Heat each of the colored frostings in the microwave for 10-15 seconds.
Gently squeeze each color over the top of the donuts in a back and forth motion.
Repeat with all donuts.
