No matter if you’re looking for the perfect romantic getaway in Missouri or a totally unique and awesome treehouse bed and breakfast to relax, unwind, and renew, The Cottage in Hermann has you covered. Our recent stay at this Missouri treehouse was unlike anything that our “camping souls” had ever had the pleasure of experiencing.
If you’re looking for a way to unplug from the business of everyday life, sleeping in the trees during a stay at The Cottage in Hermann is the perfect way to make that happen. Add The Cottage to the top of your list for Hermann lodging.
While we were hosted during our stay, all thoughts/opinions/pictures are from our own experience.
Hearing the word “treehouse”, our mind instantly starts creating images of pirates, princess castles, and daring adventures and more than likely, it brings a smile to your face. In fact, I always wanted a treehouse growing up but never had the opportunity.
Thankfully, not everyone forgets the joy that treehouses bring as they get older and this is actually how the vision got its start.
We recently had the opportunity to regress to that youthful dream together for a romantic getaway stay at The Cottage in Hermann. Joining me was my photographer and best friend, (aka the hubby) and we were beyond giddy to arrive.
Even though “treehouse” might make you think of your childhood and playing outdoors, let me sprinkle a little adultness into the mix. This Cottage bed and breakfast in Hermann is within minutes (or a trolly ride) to some of the best wineries in Missouri.
Now that I’ve stayed in this treehouse with my husband, the options for weeknight relaxation getaways, girlfriend getaways, and even an unplugging family weeknight or weekend trip are also on my radar. With four different cabin/treehouses that offer four different layouts and experiences, we totally just discovered our “go-to happy place” right in the heart of the Hermann hills.
The Cottage in Hermann – A Perfect Romantic Getaway in Missouri
Our reservation at this beautiful Missouri property had us staying overnight in the original treehouse known as “Sunset”. We were actually able to choose this one (which everyone has the option to do when booking if they are available) and I’m so happy that we did.
We picked this treehouse because it’s the perfect size for two adults and it was the first one to have been built on the property. To us, that meant it was the starting point of their hopes of bringing joy to people just like us. This was their “dream house” treehouse and how their vision came to life.
While there was parking right outside the front door of the Sunset Treehouse, I loved the roadway view leading up to it. Being able to take in all the views of nature by taking a walk is where I’ll often find my inner peace and happiness.
Throughout our stay, I walked up and down that road several times and noticed something beautiful and different each time I did.
As soon as you arrive at The Cottage, you’re going to feel the years melt away and your youthful smile takes over. It’s just impossible not to feel as though you are giving that inner child exactly what its’ always wanted.
Even more than that, the owners of this Missouri destination are literally warm and welcoming from the second that you pull into the property. We were greeted with smiles and I instantly knew that not only would be making memories during our stay, but we’d just made a pair of long-life friends as well.
Since we’re known to talk a little bit from time to time (okay, a lot) we quizzed them about anything and everything that we could think of. The entire time their responses and facial expressions were full of life, kindness, peace, and grace.
To be able to own and run a property like this has given them confirmation that hard work and determination working towards a goal and then being able to share it with others truly is a dream come true.
Their pure joy and happiness are evident throughout every detail at The Cottage. Their love for seeing other people happy and relaxed is what will forever set this treehouse bed and breakfast apart. They want people to come and relax.
They encourage people to unplug. The point of being one with the trees is so that you can allow yourself the freedom to just “be”.
After they welcomed us and gave a very helpful tutorial of how things work inside the Sunset Treehouse, we were left alone and we dove in with our first choice of relaxation: coffee! We literally didn’t have to do anything but walk across the treehouse floor, grab our adorable Cottage coffee mugs, and press the start button on the Keurig. They have it ready and waiting to go so we were able to make a couple of quick cups and sit and relax.
The Cottage is an amazing bed and breakfast in Missouri
To tell you the truth, once we were inside the Sunset Treehouse, I was ready to snuggle down on the adorable window seat to relax, and just stare out all the windows. Not only were we in the trees, but we were also situated on top of a mountain as well (a Missouri Mountain – but the same thing in my mind!). With snow accents on the ground and trees and with branches without their leaves, our view of Hermann was breathtaking. Comfortable silence anyone?
Since my husband had taken this picture of me just taking it all in, I had to do the same to him but did so while he was up in our loft. Have I mentioned that there are windows and views literally everywhere?
Even though we arrived during the day, seeing the treehouse at night all lit up is an experience in itself. I’ll just let the picture below speak for me on this one.
We were also given the chance to tour the other getaway options at The Cottage so of course, we just had to take a peek at those as well!
On the property, there are lodging options for “Cabin”, “Sunrise Treehouse”, and “Moonlight Treehouse”, all of which have amazing characteristics and views, too.
The Adorable Cabin in Hermann MO
What we loved most about touring “The Cabin” was that it was equipped with three beds (great for small families or larger groups) and also accessible with a ramp leading up to the front door with main floor access.
Once we stepped inside, the quaintness took over and we were fully immersed in every little well-thought-out detail. Up in the loft, we noticed that there was a door leading to an outside patio and that patio held one of the biggest surprises of all – a hot tub and a stellar view!
The balcony area has plenty of room for hot tubbing and sitting for those that may not want to splash around like our kiddos love to do. There are also views literally no matter where you look!
Moonlight Treehouse at The Cottage
Next up was “Moonlight Treehouse” and this is the first treehouse that you’ll see once you pull onto the property. This treehouse is one that even has a long walkway (or drawbridge if you’re using your imagination) that leads straight into the one-level treehouse and also just so happens to be a reader’s delight.
The window seat pulled me in and I instantly picked up a book. How could you not with this welcoming and inviting comfy seat? The views go on for miles.
And I just loved how the bed was pushed right up against the windows. When the light was turned on, it created such a warm and romantic glow.
The craftmanship of the “Moonlight Treehouse” was evident with its wonderful wrap around deck and a gorgeous tree the begged to be leaned upon, which I did, of course (senior portrait anyone).
We were unable to get inside of the “Sunrise Treehouse” because it was occupied by a lovely couple that there was there celebrating their anniversary, but I have no doubt that it follows suit to the other three lodging options.
Here is a stunning winter shot of the outside of the “Sunrise Treehouse” so you can see it’s just as beautiful as the rest.
While you’re left to relax and gaze at the sunset and stars, there is a wonderful homemade breakfast waiting for you at 9 AM the very next morning. But first…can we all just stop and appreciate this killer sunset that we had from our “Sunset Treehouse” loft? We were literally laying on the bed and getting this view!
I could have stared at it for hours if it would have lasted. Thankfully the days are getting a bit longer in Missouri for sunsets so we were able to kick up our heels and see this beauty without much effort at all.
Treehouse Bed and Breakfast in Missouri
Since we had no issue with the resting and relaxation portion of our trip, our tummies were ready for breakfast when we woke up. (and I have to say that we had quite the beautiful sunrise in the morning as well!)
Since the dining area is just a few simple steps away from all the treehouses/cabin, it was no big deal to take a lovely morning hike with a couple of stops along the way.
Our first stop was at the game room building where it’s equipped with a fireplace, a ton of great board games, a table for everyone to sit around and play and even a massage chair! This is a great place for families that are staying in multiple treehouses to come to one central location and hang out.
Since the food was calling our name, we made our way to the dining building and were instantly greeted with great smelling food and coffee! (or tea for my husband)
Of course, our tandem had to make the trip and we were welcomed warmly by the cutest cat ever, who seems to be quite photogenic.
The owners take turns making homemade breakfast daily for the guests and I can assure you that it’s delicious. They alternate between menus and here is what we were served during our stay.
And seriously, that Monkey Muffin was INSANE. I’m still dreaming about it. (and the smoothie tasted like ice cream…so good!)
The dining tables were set up to be intimate and open at the same time and just like the entire theme of The Cottage, we were surrounded by windows with stunning views.
For us, staying at The Cottage was the perfect romantic getaway to have. We were able to sit and have coffee, talk, listen to each other, and just reconnect on a level that we hadn’t experienced in quite some time. (I also won a game of cribbage but we’ll leave that story for another time…:-))
The Cottage in Hermann is a wonderful treehouse bed and breakfast that is great for a weekend or weeknight stay. If you’re going to book during the week, call ahead and figure out what options are available.
The owners are welcoming, warm, and accomodating and will make certain that your stay at The Cottage will be one that you never forget. (and since we were staying in the trees, a little birdie chirped in my ear and told me that if you book a weekday stay as we did with a 48-hour notice, you’ll get to take up to $50 off the rate!)
Have you ever stayed at The Cottages in Hermann Missouri?
Where are the best romantic getaways in Missouri?
There are so many places to have the best time in Missouri. You can plan a weekend getaway in Missouri easily that is in a romantic cabin, a lake resort spa, or even an outdoor adventure or activities in downtown St. Louis.
From the Gateway Arch to Echo Bluff State Park, there are plenty of romantic places in show show-me state to spend a little bit of alone time together.
Kansas City is home to beautiful boutique hotel options and is the perfect location for enjoying the Country Club Plaza.
If you want to find the perfect place to stay in Lake of the Ozarks, you’re in luck. The natural beauty of this area is one of the best things about it! You have to also plan a visit to Ha Ha Tonka State Park to see even more natural wonders.
Table Rock Lake offers a great time for all with a plethora of outdoor activities. A short drive away is Big Cedar Lodge, which is close to Silver Dollar City and also has spectacular views.
While many of the nature locations won’t have modern amenities, it’s all about what you’re waiting to get out of the experience. You can easily make it a special occasion trip without the need for an indoor pool, outdoor pool, a full kitchen, or even a gourmet breakfast.
All that you need for romantic vacations is accommodation options and one another. You can get that in a vibrant city, at a romantic treehouse getaway, or at luxury suites in a beautiful hotel.
While we are huge fans of The TreeHouse in Hermann because of the comfortable accommodations, don’t forget that Missouri has a lot of hidden gems to see and explore.

Thank you for enthusiastically sharing you treehouse adventure!!! Beautiful and well-crafted structures that truly added to the mountain.
My only complaint ? Now I’m hungry for Monkey Muffins and coffee. Guess I’ll just have to make a reservation!
