Campfire Ghost Stories with Humor

Here are five kid-friendly, humorous campfire ghost stories that balance spooky with silly:

1. The Ghost Who Loved Snacks

Once, there was a ghost who couldn’t stop snacking. Every night, campers heard crunching, slurping, and the crinkling of wrappers. But when they investigated, they found empty bags floating around! The ghost would leave behind only one note: “More chips, please.”

Punchline: The ghost wasn’t haunting—he was hungry!

2. The Invisible Blanket Thief

A group of kids at camp kept waking up freezing! Their blankets had disappeared, only to reappear in the woods. They thought it was a ghost until they caught the spirit red-handed—or rather, cold-handed. Turns out, the ghost was trying to build the biggest blanket fort ever.

Punchline: Guess the ghost wanted to be covered!

3. The Haunted Marshmallow

Every time someone roasted a marshmallow, it would mysteriously float away! “It’s haunted!” they cried. But one night, they caught the ghost in action. It was a clumsy spirit with sticky fingers who just really loved s’mores but could never get them off the stick!

Punchline: The ghost didn’t want revenge—just a second helping!

4. The Ghost with a Knock-Knock Joke

A ghost would visit campers every night, knocking on tents and asking, “Knock, knock.” When the campers responded, the ghost would tell terrible jokes. “Knock, knock!” “Who’s there?” “Boo!” “Boo who?” “Don’t cry, it’s just a joke!”

Punchline: Even ghosts have a killer sense of humor!

5. The Phantom Camper Who Hated Sleeping Bags

Legend says there’s a phantom camper who absolutely hates sleeping bags. Every night, campers heard strange sounds of zipping and unzipping. One day, the ghost finally confessed: “I just can’t figure these things out!”

Punchline: Looks like some ghosts just can’t zip it!

These stories are light-hearted, making them fun without being too scary!

3. The Chicken Nugget Monster

4. The Campfire That Told Jokes

5. The Sneaky Sleepwalker

Punchline: The tent just wanted to be part of the conversation!

8. The Friendly Ghost Camper

A ghost named Ted loved camping but wasn’t great at it. He kept getting tangled in the tent, couldn’t start a fire, and was scared of the dark! Every night he’d appear saying, “Can someone help me pitch this tent… again?”

9. The Werewolf with a Hair Problem

10. The Giant Mosquito

1. The Monster with a Cold

One night, a group of kids heard loud growling outside their tent. Terrified, they peeked outside, only to see a huge, fuzzy monster… sneezing and sniffling. “Sorry,” it said, “I caught a cold trying to scare campers in the rain.”

5. The Zombie That Loved to Dance

Punchline: This ghost wasn’t scary—just boo-tifully funny!

9. The Owl That Told Bad Jokes

An owl perched above the campfire and started hooting loudly. But instead of spooky noises, it was telling terrible knock-knock jokes. “Knock, knock!” “Who’s there?” “Owl!” “Owl who?” “Owl be seeing you later!”

These stories add a funny twist to traditional scares, keeping kids entertained without being too spooky!

And just in case you want a silly story that is longer than the rest, add this to your list of funny stories!

The Tale of the Forgetful Camper and the Legendary Fish

Once upon a time, there was a camper named Tim. Now, Tim wasn’t just any camper—he was the most forgetful camper in the world. He forgot everything: his sleeping bag, his flashlight, and once, even his tent poles! That trip turned into a night of sleeping under the stars… literally.

This year, Tim had promised to redeem himself. He assured his friends he’d remember everything, especially the fishing gear, because this was the weekend to catch the Legendary Lake Fish, a fish so big it could eat a whole marshmallow in one gulp!

So, after a bumpy ride, the group arrived at the campsite, and everyone rushed to set up their tents—everyone, except Tim. He stood there scratching his head.

“Tim, where’s your tent?” his friend Sarah asked, already knowing the answer.

Tim’s eyes widened. “Oh no! I knew I forgot something…”

Everyone groaned, but Tim quickly recovered. “It’s fine, I’ll make my own tent!” he announced proudly. Armed with sticks, leaves, and a tarp he found in the back of the car, Tim constructed what he called “the most advanced tent ever.” In reality, it looked like a giant leaf salad being held together by hope.

As night fell, the group gathered around the campfire for ghost stories, but Tim had only one thing on his mind: the Legendary Lake Fish. He was determined to catch it and become a campfire legend.

Early the next morning, before anyone else woke up, Tim snuck down to the lake. He had his fishing pole, or what he thought was a fishing pole. Turns out, in his forgetfulness, Tim had packed a broomstick with a shoelace tied to the end.

“Eh, close enough,” Tim muttered as he baited the shoelace with a marshmallow (because, of course, he forgot the real bait).

Hours passed. Tim sat there with his broomstick, waiting for the Legendary Lake Fish to take the marshmallow bait. But nothing happened. Just as he was about to give up, the water started bubbling. The surface rippled, and up rose the largest fish Tim had ever seen! This fish was so big it looked like it could swallow Tim’s whole broomstick… and maybe even Tim!

Tim’s eyes widened in excitement (and a bit of fear). He yanked on his broomstick, but nothing happened. The fish wasn’t interested in a marshmallow tied to a shoelace. Instead, the fish opened its mouth and said, “You call that bait? I expected better.”

Tim froze. A talking fish? This was definitely the Legendary Lake Fish! And apparently, it had standards.

“W-What should I use as bait then?” Tim stammered.

The fish thought for a moment. “How about… a sandwich?”

“A sandwich?” Tim asked, confused. “What kind of fish eats a sandwich?”

“This one,” the fish said proudly. “I’m tired of marshmallows. Give me a nice PB&J or a grilled cheese, and we’ll talk.”

Tim was desperate, so he ran back to the campsite. He rummaged through the cooler, grabbed a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and sprinted back to the lake. He tossed the sandwich into the water, hoping this would do the trick.

The fish surfaced again, sniffed the sandwich, and gave a satisfied nod. “Now that’s what I’m talking about!” The Legendary Lake Fish gobbled the sandwich in one bite and belched loudly, creating waves in the water.

Tim, still in shock that he was negotiating with a fish, asked, “So, can I catch you now?”

The fish laughed. “Catch me? Oh no, I’m far too legendary for that. But here’s the deal—tell everyone you almost caught me, and I’ll give you something better than a fish.”

Tim’s eyes lit up. “Like what?”

The fish flipped its tail and tossed a shiny object toward Tim. It landed with a plop on the shore. Tim rushed to pick it up. It was… a keychain. A keychain shaped like a fish.

“Seriously? A keychain?” Tim said, disappointed.

The fish grinned. “Legendary, isn’t it?”

Tim didn’t have the heart to argue with a fish, especially not a fish that liked sandwiches. So, he headed back to the campsite with his broomstick, shoelace, and the keychain.

When his friends saw him, they asked, “Did you catch the Legendary Lake Fish?”

Tim held up the keychain proudly and said, “Well, not exactly. But I did make a legendary trade!”

From that day on, Tim became known as the camper who almost caught the Legendary Lake Fish. The keychain became his badge of honor, and every time he forgot something (which was often), he’d say, “At least I didn’t forget my fish keychain!”

And whenever anyone asked for the story of the Legendary Lake Fish, Tim would sit them down by the campfire, smile, and say, “It’s a whale of a tale… but it all started with a sandwich.”

Key takeaway: Sometimes the most legendary stories aren’t about what you catch—but the fun, forgetful adventures along the way!

When you’re camping in the dark night, who says that you have to tell a spooky ghost story? Even the littlest campers will appreciate this list of stories that have a funny ending! You can tell one funny campfire story – or tell them all – but I promise you that this list is a good choice for your first night or second night of camping.

Everyone will have a perfect time with any funny story from this list! They might start off as spooky tales and spooky stories, but they will have everyone giggling by the end!
