When I was little, my mom always told me to never eat raw cookie dough because it had eggs in it…and even know as an adult, I still remember her telling me that. (I’ve even passed it on to our children – I really do sound like my mother…) And if you had to live by that same rule in your house, you probably know that it was totally hard just starting at that creamy cookie dough and not taking a bit.
(Okay, full disclosure – I rebelled on my mom’s rule literally almost every time and thankfully I’m here to this day.)
What I love most about this egg free cookie dip recipe is that I can now take a bite of raw cookie dough and not worry about “whatever” is going to happen. And when you’re adulting day in and day out, it’s nice to not have to worry about “one more thing”.
Just in case you add eggs to your cookies, I thought it would be good to educate a bit on what the eggs actually do and if they’re really even necessary. Even though we aren’t going to bake this no egg cookies dessert dip, I still like to know for future baked chocolate chip cookies!
What do eggs do in cookies?
As it turns out, eggs give the cookies the moisture. They also add in fat as well and are the ingredient that will give you a chewy cookie versus a brittle one.
What can I substitute for eggs in chocolate chip cookies?
What you’re needing to do is find a replacement for the moisture since you’re removing the egg. Adding in some unsweetened applesauce is a great way to do just that. Unsweetened is the key but if you happen to just have sweetened, just reduce the other amounts of sugar that you’re adding in the recipe to help take away of a bit of that sweet taste.
What happens in you forget eggs in cookies?
It’s fine! Leaving out eggs more than likely won’t ruin the final product, but the texture may just be a bit different. Who knows, maybe you’ve just discovered a new egg free cookie recipe to share with the world?!
