From the moment that I walked through the door of Cedar Street Market Antiques, I could tell that this was a store that I was going to love. Not only was there fun modern decor scattered throughout but there were also a ton of antiques as well. A perfect “hodgepodge”, if I do say so myself. And while I loved everything that this eclectic store in Abilene, Kansas had to offer, I loved the owner Connie and her handy helper (her puppy, Violet) even more.
Connie is like a beautiful breathe of fresh air. She’s passionate about life, proud of her store, and loves how the community of Abilene has become a second home to her and Violet. Connie was gracious enough to take some time out of her busy schedule to set down and talk with me about how Cedar Street Market Antiques came to be.
While I was hosted on my trip to Abilene, Kansas, all thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.

Cedar Street Market Antiques in Abilene, Kansas – Eclectic & Memorable
It’s no secret that I love unique items and bright colors. And Connie has a great appreciation for those items as well.
In fact, her main job before opening Cedar Street Market Antiques was that spent her time helping others decorate the interior of their home. (and actually, she still does this as well!) And when I say decorate….think big and bold. I was fortunate enough to see some of the homes that she’s decorated and I was in awe. Bright colors, bold prints, and unique items made each and every room that she designed to stand out in its own way.
Connie will tell you that she has a weakness for anything French, so if you take a stroll through her store, you’ll more than likely see a few items that fit that bill. One aspect of her store that truly amazed me was the variety of items that she showcased.

When I asked Connie what brought her to Abilene to open this store, she smiled and replied that the architecture and history in the town, the affordable cost of living, and the beautiful tree-lined streets were some of the best things that Abilene had to offer.
“How in the world does one find time to be an interior decorator and run a store 7 days/week in Abilene, Kansas?”
Calmly, Connie responded that she was “pickers” that will keep an eye out for items that they think will do well in her store and then they bring those items to her. And while I’d heard about this happening in the world before, it was really, really cool to meet someone who did this practice in their everyday business as well. Think about that when you enter her store. She finds and surrounds herself with objects that make her happy and that she loves, and then she has others in the world that do the same for her.

What did I love about Cedar Street Market Antiques?
It’s hard for me to truly narrow it down. I was instantly drawn to the energy of Connie. If there was a soul sister in the antique world that I was meant to find, it’s her. It’s obvious that she truly cares about her store and the items that belong in it.
I also loved listening to her knowledge of interior decorating and antiques. So many people tend to think of “old school” antiques that are lacking colors and features, and that just isn’t the case with what you’ll find at Cedar Street Market Antiques. Every piece in her store is there for a purpose, and every single piece has a story.
And if you ask Connie, she’ll gladly tell you all about it. Listen closely, she has a wealth of knowledge that is truly amazing.
